A Northern Rhone style Syrah with elements of pepper, ripe plum, licorice and herbs, rich and complex with well-defined structure.
2018 Syrah – This Syrah opens with a complex and layered nose, featuring a blend of aromas consisting of chocolate, coffee bean, and dark fruit such as black currant and blackberry
The experience on the palate is plush and richly textured marked by flavors of mocha, espresso, black olive and dark cherry notes that cover and coat all areas of the mouth. The tannins are soft, yet a light dryness on the finish extends the mouthfeel and elegant structure. Enjoy now or cellar for future rewards.
After de-stemming, the Syrah grapes are lightly crushed into stainless steel vats. When the fermentation starts, the wine undergoes methodical aeration at moderate temperatures to extract soft tannin and color. Towards the end of the maceration the pump over work is limited to nonexistent. Finally, when mouthfeel objectives are reached, the grapes are gently pressed and barreled down. Barrel aged for 14 months in French oak and American oak, of which 25% was new oak.
Syrah is a wonderful wine to pair warm comfort food dishes with. Enjoy a glass accompanied by long simmered braised beef roast or a grilled pork tenderloin with a herbaceous chimmichurri sauce. On a lighter side the Syrah would taste delightful with a colorful plate of goat cheese and roasted beets.
While there may be nothing better than the classic pairing of Cabernet and a fine steak with a savory sauce, such as béarnaise or au poivre, our rich and flavorful Cabernet Sauvignon would pair excellently with a multitude of dishes. Try it with a savory cocoa and spice-rubbed roasted pork loin, braised mushrooms, and mashed parsnips smothered in rich demi-glace. This wine would also pair well with an array of aged cheeses, such as sharp cheddar, manchego or gouda.
