People often ask us what makes Southern Oregon different from other wine regions on the West Coast.
It's a fair question. Most people have heard of Napa. Many have visited the Willamette Valley. Southern Oregon isn't always the first wine region that comes to mind, but once people visit, they usually understand why we love it so much.
One of the biggest differences is simply the variety of wines we can grow here.
Because of our warm days, cool nights, and long growing season, Southern Oregon can successfully grow a wide range of grapes. At Del Rio, that means we can produce everything from crisp whites like Viognier to elegant Pinot Noir, rich Malbec, and bold Cabernet Sauvignon. Not many wine regions can do all of those well.
The climate here gives us a lot of flexibility. During the summer, we get plenty of sunshine to ripen fruit. Then the temperatures cool off at night, helping the grapes maintain their natural acidity. That combination creates wines with great flavor, balance, and character.
It's one of the many reasons we're proud to grow grapes here.
Our location along the Rogue River is another part of what makes Del Rio unique. The river has shaped this valley for thousands of years and continues to influence the vineyards that surround it. When you're sitting on our front porch with a glass of wine, watching the river move through the valley and looking out toward the mountains, it's easy to see why so many people fall in love with this area.
What we hear most from visitors isn't just about the wine. It's about how relaxed everything feels.
Southern Oregon wine country still feels approachable. You don't have to fight traffic to get here. You don't need reservations months in advance. You can spend an afternoon tasting wine, talking with our team, enjoying the views, and simply slowing down for a while.
That's something we never want to lose.
We are proud to be part of a wine region that is still being discovered. Every year we meet guests who tell us they had no idea Southern Oregon had wineries like this. We love hearing that because it means they found something unexpected.
And honestly, that's part of the fun.
If you haven't visited Del Rio in a while—or if you've never been—we'd love to show you what makes this corner of Oregon so special.
Come spend an afternoon with us. Enjoy a tasting, take in the views along the Rogue River, and discover for yourself why Southern Oregon has become one of the West Coast's most exciting wine regions.
We'll save you a seat.
