Malbec pairs well with dishes like grilled steaks, lamb, or barbecued meats, where its fruit and structure complement the smoky flavors. It also enhances the taste of aged cheeses (blue cheese,) creating a perfect balance of complexity and depth.

The 2021 Malbec presents a ruby-red hue with vibrant aromatics of violet, blackcurrant, inky blackberry, and subtle cedar. Layers of dark fruits unfold on the palate, complemented by hints of caramel, leather, and earthy undertones. The well-integrated oak adds depth without overshadowing the fruit, while the wine’s evolving complexity hints at the early stages of development. A bright acidity balances the fine-grained tannins, leading to a refined finish.

Del Rio Vineyards is rooted in the ancient volcanic and alluvial soils of the Rogue Valley, providing excellent drainage and a rich mineral foundation that enhances vine health and fruit concentration. The vineyard’s south-facing slopes and varying elevations ensure optimal sun exposure, promoting even ripening and deep flavor development. Influenced by the Rogue River’s cooling effect, the warm days and cool nights help maintain acidity and balance, producing a Malbec with structure, depth, and a true expression of Southern Oregon’s terroir.

Grapes were picked at optimal ripeness, de-stemmed, and gently crushed before undergoing a seven-days pre-fermentation maceration to enhance color and aromatic complexity. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures, allowing for balanced extraction and purity of fruit. Once the desired structure and texture were achieved, the wine was gently pressed and underwent malolactic fermentation for added roundness. It was then aged for 15 months in oak barriques, with 5% new French oak contributing body and complexity, while neutral barrels preserved the wine’s varietal character and finesse.
