Adventure #2: Hood River to Portland

It is time for another Sunday adventure! After fully enjoying Central Oregon we ventured north to Hood River. Hood River was dark when we arrived and that was totally okay with us as we were exhausted. We found out that the best thing about arriving late at night is the view you wake up to in the morning. Does it get any better than sipping fresh roasted coffee with the view of the beautiful Columbia River?

STOP 1: HOOD RIVER

We picked the perfect hotel, The Hood River Inn, located right on the river. When they say free breakfast, they mean made to order and so delicious. After breakfast we took a nice stroll along the glossed over beautiful Columbia River. We actually then, back tracked just a little bit from our late night drive to see all the beautiful tree blossoms in bloom. We happily stumbled onto the cutest little U-Pick flower farm! With an old historic house and beautiful gardens we had to actually question ourselves are we back home at Del Rio? We only made it to The Gorge White House, but there are many, many more fruit stands and farms around Hood River that could keep you busy for hours. We snapped a few photos and were off in the direction of Portland.

STOP 2: MULTNOMAH FALLS & BRIDAL VEIL FALLS

Traveling along the Gorge and Columbia River is a beautiful drive, however, now tainted by the fire that sadly struck this summer. We learned quickly what damage as  done when we walked up to Multnomah Falls. Our intent was to hike to the top, however, the path is completely barricaded due to safety and fire damage. The falls are still breathtaking, however, your only viewpoint is down by the lodge. Fire damage was just heartbreaking to see in such a beautiful place filled with wonder.

We didn’t let the damage get to us! Good thing we met a nice couple that referred us to find a hidden gem….Bridal Veil Falls. We had so much fun hiding Del Rio gear all along this trail. It was a quick, easy, and beautiful hike to an aww dropping falls. We could have really spent most all of our day here sipping on wine in awe of natures beauty . . . which reminds us Happy Mother’s day to all those moms out there and Mother Nature . . . well done!!

STOP 3: PORTLAND

Hopping back in the car, we made our way to the Hotel Duniway in downtown Portland. Talk about unique. Perk of this hip, spectacular room is not only can you text the front desk at anytime and ask them anything, but the complimentary espresso was just what we needed. Quick change of clothes and off too Nel Centro for the most delicious pizza and a surprise sample of Cantaloupe sorbet and of course a glass of wine. Then out to wonder through the city. Powell’s Books is so easy to get lost in (what a find)and how about some coffee and a little sugar boost at Blue Star doughnuts! We searched for a view of the city so we made our way to the restaurant Departure with a roof top view. We topped off our city experience with wine and oysters at Chef Chris Cosentino’s Jackrabbit, where grit & flavor don’t disappoint. As they promise it will be a synergy between flavor & atmosphere and place & taste. There are so many incredible restaurants to visit and we had oh so little time. We also must recommend Jake Crawfish! They have this amazing Rock Point Pinot Gris on their menu.

We loved Portland! There is so much to taste and explore, plus in just 30 minutes you can be hiking waterfalls.

Until next Sunday,

~ Courtney & Lindsey
